Reading and Literacy Added Authorization
Eligibility Requirements If you are interested in obtaining the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTCC), you must:
  • Have a valid Teaching or Designated Subjects Credential English Learner Authorization
  • Submit verification of experience. You must complete a minimum of three years teaching experience in any grade or subject matter. Acceptable experience does not include student teaching, internship teaching, or teaching while holding an emergency permit. This experience may include teaching outside of California.
  • Complete all required coursework with a grade of B+ or higher.
  • Meet the standards of candidate competence and performance of the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization Certificate Program.

School Counseling
The USC Rossier School Counseling program is officially recognized as a credentialing program that prepares students to be recommended for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing External link ’s Pupil Personnel Services: School Counseling (PPS-SC) Credential. The PPS-SC Credential is required when applying to be a school counselor in California. In order to graduate, all SC online students must complete the Basic Skills Requirement External link prior to starting field experience.
School Leadership
To be eligible for the Preliminary Administrative Credential, you must hold a clear credential for which you can confirm a minimum of five years of verified experience as a credentialed professional You can be credentialed as a teacher, a counselor, librarian, and/or health or rehab services professional. You will need to complete 200 hours of field experience, submit proof of passing the 3 CalAPA Leadership cycles and submit your Credential Recommendation Request. Proof of coursework (transcript) and the summative assessment will be confirmed by the Program Administrator.
School Social Work
The Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorize individuals to provide school services in grades 12 and below, including preschool, and in classes organized primarily for adults. The PPSC is usually a requirement for employment as a school social worker in California K-12 public schools.
