Job Description

I. Position Information:
JOB TITLE: Graduate Assistant for Orientation Programs
HOURS: 5 hours/wk in Fall 2025, 10 hours/wk in Spring 2026, 37.5 hours/wk in Summer 2026
LENGTH OF APPOINTMENT: November 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026


II. Position Overview:
Under the general supervision and guidance of the Associate Director, the Graduate Assistant (GA) will work as a generalist within the Office of Orientation Programs supporting the Orientation Leader student staff supervision, training and development. The GA will be responsible for creating, implementing, and assessing training initiatives and fostering an inclusive environment within the Orientation Leader Team. The GA will primarily be assisting with program logistics, student staff supervision and training needs to prepare for their involvement in the online and on-campus orientation programming. Providing program assessment, customer service and facilitation will be additional roles of this position.


III. Position Responsibilities:
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will assist the Orientation professional staff with:
● Event management, including but not limited to:
o Pre-event material preparation
o Program support
o Technical support
o Student and guest program/session support
o Online student services fair support
o Online programming support (including late-night programming)
o Supervision of undergraduate student staff during events
● Undergraduate student staff development, including but not limited to:
o Orientation Leader recruitment and selection support
o Orientation Coordinator supervision and support
o Orientation Leader retreat planning and facilitation
o Spring Kick-Off and Training planning and facilitation
o Summer intensive training and facilitation
o Summer staff meetings and ongoing training
o 1-on-1 check-ins with Orientation Leaders
o Performance evaluations of Orientation Leaders
● Program assessment and evaluation, including but not limited to:
o Preparing reports based on both quantitative and qualitative data
o Coding qualitative evaluation results
IV. Compensation and Resumeration:
● Pay of $20.00 per hour, paid in accordance with California wage and labor laws
● Housing in a single-occupancy, university-owned furnished apartment from May 26, 2026 to August 1, 2026
o Housing is through USC Summer Conferencing. The apartments are furnished but not supplied with personal cooking or eating supplies.
● Meals during orientation events
o Meals/snacks during programming and meeting days will be available however, a full meal plan is not provided. Staff housing apartments have full kitchens for meal prep.
V. Mandatory Training and Events:
● Orientation Coordinator Transition Retreat: Saturday, November 1, 2025 OR Sunday, November 2, 2025
● Orientation Leader Group and Individual Interviews: Friday, February 6, 2026 - Friday, February 27, 2026 (based around availability)
● Welcome Kick-Off Retreat: Saturday, March 28, 2026 OR Sunday, March 29, 2026
● Spring Training (Fridays, 2-4pm):
○ April 3, 2026, 2-4pm
○ April 10, 2026, 2-4pm
○ April 17, 2026, 2-4pm
○ April 24, 2026, 2-4pm
● Summer Orientation Move-In: Tuesday, May 26, 2026
● Orientation Leader Retreat: Thursday, May 28 - Friday, May 29, 2026
● Summer Intensive Training: Monday, June 1 - Friday, June 12, 2026 (excluding weekends)
● Mock Orientation: Thursday June 11, 2026 (12:00pm - 4:00pm)
● All Summer Welcome Trojans Orientation: (Online and On-Campus) Programming in June and July, and the first week of August.

Priority will be given to candidates with prior experience in New Student Orientation Programs, Residence Life, Student Leadership Programs. Please address your prior experience in these areas within your Cover Letter for this position.
