Program Description

EOPS (Extended Opportunities Programs and Services) is a state-funded program that provides economically and educationally underrepresented students with support services that will help them achieve their educational goals.  These support services are in addition to the services provided by the college to all students.

Basic Needs is a college program that strives to provide community-based resources for all of our students experiencing basic needs insecurities, including but not limited to, housing, food, clothes, homelessness, and safety.  Basic Needs provides individualized resources depending on the needs and challenges students are experiencing.

Position Description

The Graduate Intern position is an unclassified, at-will position. The ideal candidate performs a variety of paraprofessional duties related to their course of study at the college or university they are attending in support of the staff in charge. Duties may entail answering telephones, emails, follow up with students, assistance with resources, etc.  Successful candidates will have strong listening, organizational, presentation, and research skills.

The ideal candidate must also have initiative, motivation, and a strong desire to help students explore and discover their academic, career and major options. Applicants must be able to work with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced, high-volume office and have the ability to multi-task and be student friendly. The responsibilities of the graduate include the following:

  • Assist in the creation and promotion and distribution of flyers, calendar of events and other department materials.
  • Assist with case management by providing follow up information and referrals for child care, shelters, low income housing options, public housing information, Section 8, Cal Fresh/Medi-Cal, etc.
  • Contact local agencies, community organizations, and other support agencies to help maintain and develop partnerships.
  • Help update and maintain student files, appointment grids, and other documents
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach activities on and off campus.
  • Provide current and prospective students with accurate information about the application process, important deadlines, department activities and services.
  • Provide follow up services for students with, low GPA’s, community referrals, etc.
  • Walk and connect students to on campus to assist in connecting students to the appropriate LATTC department.
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must meet LACCD enrollment requirements 
  • Must be enrolled full-time as a graduate student in accredited degree program.
  • Be available to work 15-20 hours per week may include some evenings and/or weekends
  • Must be skilled with using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and other technology

Employment Limit

Four (4) years, unless evidence is provided which demonstrates the student is diligently pursuing the attainment of an academic degree.

Compensation:

This is an unclassified at-will position with the LACCD and contingent upon funding, pay rate: $20.29 an hour employed for 15-20 hours a week
