Department Summary

The UCLA Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) is a key initiative of the Graduate Students Association (GSA) and is managed by Student Affairs. Serving as a vital resource, referral, and information center, the GSRC supports the diverse needs of UCLA's graduate and professional school students. The GSRC provides guidance and support in navigating the unique challenges of graduate school, and offer a variety of workshops and programs in collaboration with our campus partners. The GSRC plays a central role in organizing significant campus-wide events such as the Graduate Student Orientation (GSO) and Graduate & Professional Student Appreciation Week (GPSA). Position Summary


Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director has oversight over all Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) day-to-day operations, programs and resource development (excluding Graduate Writing Center programs). The Assistant Director serves as lead staff person advising the graduate student planning committees for our graduate student Program Coordinators and Graduate Student Orientation; oversees the GSRC staff, office supply, programming budgets, and departmental purchasing. The Assistant Director assumes responsibility for the hiring, training, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate student Administrative Assistant staff, graduate student Program Coordinator staff, and the Orientation Coordinators. The Assistant Director represents the GSRC on many divisional and systemwide committees such as: The Healthy Campus Initiative, The Graduate Student Professional Development Collaborative Working Group, the Economic Crisis Response Team, and other committees as needed and works closely with the Graduate Students Association, campus partners, faculty and graduate student leaders to support and advocate for graduate student needs and resource development across campus. The Assistant Director also occasionally serves on system-wide committees and acts in place of the GSRC Director, in their absence. The Assistant Director facilitates referrals for graduate students in crisis or with significant concerns.


Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge in developing, implementing, and assessing policies, curricula, programs, and strategies specifically designed to support graduate student success, development, and wellness outcomes. (Required)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of graduate student issues and concerns, with experience in assessing and implementing holistic resolution methods to effectively support students. (Required)
  • Ability to independently organize and complete tasks, manage multiple projects, set priorities, and allocate resources effectively in a complex and fast-paced environment with minimal supervision (Required)
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively facilitate meetings, deliver professional presentations, and explain complex concepts to diverse audiences. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skills in designing, implementing, and assessing programming that address graduate student concerns and making improvements based on feedback (Required)
  • Proven ability to effectively manage resources, oversee finances, and maintain accurate records while maximizing efficiency and ensuring high-quality services (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write reports, and make presentations on issues related to constituencies served. (Required)
  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills, including student staff hiring, training, and development, combined with the ability to effectively interact with diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members across various cultural, social, and demographic backgrounds (Required)
  • Strong ability and willingness to learn new technology to develop and enhance programs, combined with expertise in using web-based applications and systems for managing information, tracking data, and assessing program outcomes, ensuring that departmental knowledge stays current. (Required)
  • Ability to counsel graduate students individually while being knowledgeable about the unique issues faced by underrepresented minority (URM) students, student veterans, former foster youth, parenting students, undocumented students, those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and first-generation grad (Required)
  • Ability to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders. (Required)
  • Ability to perform effectively in crisis situations and dynamic circumstances while maintaining equanimity, privacy, and confidentiality of information, and acting with ethics and integrity (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
  • Master's degree (Preferred)

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
