Graduate Intern
LA Harbor College Asian American Student Success (APASS)The LAHC Asian Pacific American Student Success (APASS) Department is interviewing Unclassified Paid Interns (UPI) starting in the Fall 2026 and continuing until Spring 2027. Successful interns will work primarily at the APASS office but may be assigned to support other offices throughout the semester. The Unclassified Paid Intern (UPI) will allow undergraduate/graduate students hands-on experience in the areas of Asian Pacific American Student Success, Equity Programs Student Success and overall LAHC student success.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with program counselor, coordinator, instructional faculty, and other campus departments, including, but not limited to, Equity Village, Counseling, Transfer, on programming, workshops, and other events
2. Serve as a peer mentor for current APASS students participating in the APASS Navigator program
3. Assist in the coordination and case management of the APASS Navigator program
4. Facilitate workshops on Asian Pacific American Student Success identity and academic topics
5. Help students navigate campus resources and referrals
6. Participate in completing daily, weekly, and monthly office-related tasks related to assisting students, planning and marketing workshops, social media, and events, and student contact documentation
7. Attend staff meetings
8. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies
1) Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate/graduate student in a counseling/student affairs related program
2) Maintain a 2.0 GPA and make satisfactory progress
3) Available to work up to 20 hours a week
4) Demonstrates the ability to express thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing
Desired Characteristics and Qualifications
1) Ability to conduct workshops and make presentations
2) Ability to work effectively independently or cooperatively as part of a team and to carrying out multiple tasks or projects
3) Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Canva, Canvas and other technology as needed
4) Exercises sound and ethical and professional judgment when working with students, faculty and staff
5) Being receptive to feedback, willing to learn, embracing continuous improvement
6) Planning ahead, managing time well, and being on time
7) Taking ownership and commitment to our work, doing what is needed without being asked, following through
8) Flexible and adaptable to change and needs of the center
